FAQs

Question:

Why doesn’t the “SD expansion slot” in the EZ101 or EZ105 work?

Answer:

The RCA EZ101 and EZ105 Small Wonder camcorders do not have an SD expansion slot and will not accept an SD card. The slot in the top of the camcorder is to allow authorized retailers to dock the Small Wonder and create a DVD from the videos on the camcorder.

Authorized retailers include:

CVS
RiteAid
Ritz Camera
Longs Drugs
Duane Reade

The new RCA EZ201 Small Wonder camcorder does have an SD expansion slot to extend recording time by up to 4 hours with a 2 GB SD card. Note that the EZ201 will not accept SD cards that are greater than 2 GB in size.

Question:

Why is my RCA Small Wonder not recognized by my computer?

Answer:

Depending on your system, several situations may occur where your computer may not recognize the Small Wonder camcorder when you plug it in via the USB jack.

Please make sure your computer‘s operating system is up to date with the latest service packs. Visit http://update.microsoft.com to check for the latest service packs and patches.

If you are using a Windows XP network enabled machine that automatically maps network drives when you log in, you may have a drive letter conflict. This issue has been noted by Microsoft here: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=297694

To prevent this issue from occurring, when you map a network drive, assign the highest available drive letter to the mapped network drive. To work around this issue if the new volume appears in Disk Management, specify a different drive letter for the new device or volume. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.
  2. Under Computer Management (Local), click Disk Management (NOTE: Administrative privileges are required to access the Disk Management tool).
  3. In the list of drives in the right pane, right-click the new drive and then click Change Drive Letter and Path(s).
  4. Click Change, and in the drop-down box, select a drive letter for the new drive that is not assigned to a mapped network drive.
  5. Click OK, and then click OK again.

Both the mapped network drives and the recently installed drive will now appear in Windows Explorer.

“Autoplay” may be disabled on your PC. To make sure auto launch is enabled, plug the Small Wonder into the PC’s USB port and open “My Computer”. Locate the “POINT&SHOOT” drive letter that has been assigned to your Small Wonder camcorder. Right click the drive letter and select “Properties”. From the “AutoPlay” tab, make sure the Actions for the Video Files drop down is set to “Prompt me each time to choose an action.”

Certain models of Dell D60X series laptops may require a USB driver upgrade to operate properly and detect your Small Wonder camcorder. If you are using one of these laptops with a docking cradle, you may want to visit the Dell website and find the latest USB drivers for your laptop.

If you have used a third party application disabled “Auto Run” on your machine to prevent programs from unexpectedly executing when connected to devices such as a thumb drive, etc, you will have to manually run the program included with the RCA Small Wonder. To manually launch the viewing program, plug the Small Wonder into the PC’s USB port and open “My Computer”. Locate the “POINT&SHOOT” drive letter that has been assigned to your Small Wonder camcorder and open it. Locate the file called “View your videos.exe”, and manually run this file by double clicking it.

Question:

How do I create a CD-ROM or DVD of the video images from my RCA Small Wonder?

Answer:

To create a CD-ROM or DVD of your videos, you must first have a CD-ROM Burner or DVD Burner as well as the software required to burn to these types of media. Locate the videos files you wish to use by accessing “My Computer”. Locate the “POINT&SHOOT” drive letter that has been assigned to your Small Wonder camcorder and double click it to open it. Then open the “DCIM” folder and “100VIDEO” subfolder. Inside this folder, you will find video files that start with the file name VID00001 or similar. Simply drag and drop these files to either your CD-ROM / DVD creation software or directly to the CD-Writer folder on a Windows XP machine to burn to CD-ROM. For more information, please search the internet on the topic of how to create a DC-ROM or DVD.

Question:

How do I archive the videos I have recorded with my EZ101 or EZ105 Small Wonder onto a CD-ROM or DVD?

Answer:

NOTE: To archive videos with your PC, you must have a PC containing a CD-ROM/DVD recorder as well as compatible recording software. Windows XP has built in software for burning to CD-ROM and Windows Vista has built in software for burning to both CD-ROM and DVD.

To archive your videos as described above, there are two options. You may either use a preferred CD-ROM/DVD recording program or you may take your Small Wonder to an authorized Pure Digital retailer, such as CVS. To write a CD-ROM/DVD with your preferred recording program, perform the following steps:

  1. Save the videos you wish to include on the disc from your camcorder to your PC
  2. Launch your CD-ROM/DVD recording software
  3. Locate the video files you wish to use by accessing “My Computer/My Videos/RCA Small Wonder”, or any other location you saved your RCA Small Wonder Videos
  4. Drag and drop the desired files to your CD-ROM/DVD recording software
  5. Follow the instructions within your CD-ROM/DVD recording software to burn the files to disc
